About Polymaleic Acid (HPMA)
Polymaleic Acid (HPMA) is a low-molecular-weight polymer made by hydrolysing polymaleic anhydride. It is stable at high temperature and effective at preventing scale.
Uses and applications
Cooling water
Inhibits calcium carbonate and calcium phosphate scale in recirculating cooling systems, often combined with phosphonates.
Boilers
Used for scale and sludge conditioning in low- and medium-pressure boilers.
Desalination
Used as an antiscalant to protect membranes and heat-exchange surfaces.
Regulatory note and documentation
