About Methylparaben

Methylparaben is the methyl ester of p-hydroxybenzoic acid. It is an effective preservative at low concentrations and works across a wide pH range.

Uses and applications

Cosmetics

Preserves creams, lotions, shampoos and make-up, often combined with other parabens or preservatives.

Pharmaceutical

Used as an antimicrobial preservative in oral and topical medicines.

Food

Permitted as a preservative in some foods and beverages in certain markets, within set limits.
