About Sodium Benzoate
Sodium Benzoate is the sodium salt of benzoic acid. It is a stable, highly soluble preservative that works best in acidic products, where it inhibits yeasts, moulds and some bacteria.
Uses and applications
Food and beverage
Preserves soft drinks, fruit juices, sauces, pickles, jams and salad dressings, typically in products with a pH below about 4.5.
Cosmetics and personal care
Used as a preservative in creams, lotions, shampoos and mouthwashes, often alongside other preservatives.
Pharmaceutical
Used to preserve oral liquids and syrups, and as a component in some medicinal formulations.
