About Sodium Alginate

Sodium Alginate is the sodium salt of alginic acid, extracted from brown seaweed. It thickens water and forms gels in the presence of calcium.

Uses and applications

Food

Used as a thickener and stabiliser in sauces, ice cream and desserts, and for encapsulation and spherification.

Pharmaceutical

Used in wound dressings, antacid formulations and as a tablet disintegrant.

Textile printing

Used as a thickener in reactive dye print pastes.
